The pottery that we live with and use becomes the vessel of our memories. They witness our daily lives. Continued use of our well loved objects bring the memories of what they’ve experienced back to us. We remember where the pots came from, who bought them for us, or in some cases who owned them before us. I own a coffee mug that belonged to my grandma, then my mom, and now to me. I wonder about all the moments that this mug has shared with the people that I love. As a potter I often work in multiples. My philosophy on making is to make, wonder, and remake with an emphasis on reflecting on the best attributes of the previous work. As for my process I use whatever firing method I think is best suited to accomplish the goal of the piece. Curiosity drives the process of making for me and as a result I’ve worked in and loved a variety ceramic processes. I incorporate them into my ceramic practice when they’re best suited. The joy of experiencing ceramics is the goal of my work. I make objects for people to love and give their own stories to.
